Cocovera was formed in 2018 by Janelle Leigh Obert and Alejandra Robles Luna in Downtown Los Angeles because Robles Luna wanted to explore other instruments beyond the drums. Obert and Robles Luna released their sophomore album at the height of the pandemic, but unfortunately their tour was cancelled. The world stopped, but they made two incredible music videos off the album. A "Bottling Company" feature for "Feel Better", and a stop-motion, blacklight extravaganza for "These Walls". For the third album they called on Maxcy James to produce it, and soon realized they would prefer him to be a permanent member of the band. Janelle and Maxcy were previously in the project: "No Girlfriends" together. Maxcy brings a dance/electric element to bass heavy/percussion driven songs that feels nostalgic, yet also futuristic. The trio spends a lot of their time drinking tea and doing their little routines in Joshua Tree, when they're not working on new material. Curiosity and exploration is so important in their music, as it is in their identities. As AFAB people, they all bring their unique experiences of queerness to the band. Aside from their crippling anxiety, they are a fun mixture of lesbians, asexuals, pansexuals and trans. Their hearts are in music, but also have a passion to make the world a little bit easier of a place to be yourself. Alejandra Robles Luna currently plays with the band "Deep Vally", but has previously played with Amelia Moore, Suki Waterhouse, Le Butcherettes, and Madame Ghandi. She has opened for Fletcher, L7, Bikini Kill, Ani Difranco, Violent Femmes, Incubus, Social Distortion and At the Drive in.
