Long before “desert rock” became a recognized genre, Yawning Man were quietly creating its blueprint in the vast open spaces of California’s Mojave Desert. Formed in the late 1980s, the pioneering instrumental trio became legendary for their free-form “generator parties,” where hypnotic, atmospheric jams echoed across the desert night. Their fluid blend of psychedelic rock, surf, jazz, and improvisation has influenced countless bands, including many associated with the stoner rock movement. More than three decades later, Yawning Man continue to craft immersive sonic landscapes that feel both timeless and deeply connected to the spirit of the desert they call home.

Giant Rock Meeting Room
We're a pizza shop and bar located in Flamingo Heights, just north of Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree. We have live music, cocktails, beer and special pop up events. We pride ourselves on being the local watering hole for so many lovely desert dwellers, but we also love seeing new faces.
